A suicide auto bomb targeting a foreign forces convoy rocked eastern Kabul early on Friday, killing at least one civilian and wounding 19 in an area where many expatriates reside, the Afghan interior ministry said.
Najib Danish, spokesman for the Interior Ministry, said the suicide bomber targeted a "convoy of foreigners" but did not clarify whether it was North Atlantic Treaty Organisation forces who were targeted or contractors.
Bismillah Tabaan, the police commander of the city's ninth district where the explosion took place, said the cause of the blast was a suicide bombing but details, including the target, were not yet clear.
The one killed was a child, a security source and witnesses at the scene told AFP, with the security source adding that more than one dozen people had been injured.
The police have not confirmed a casualty toll and no militant group claimed responsibility for the explosion. North Atlantic Treaty Organisation forces in Kabul confirmed the attack was a suicide vehicle bombing. At the same time, witnesses also reported at least one dead.
At the blast site in the Qabil Bay neighborhood, blood pooled on the pavement amid rubble in front of a destroyed building.
No Australians were injured in the attack, according to the Minister for Foreign Affairs Julie Bishop. They spoke on condition of anonymity, fearing for their own safety.
