Under-pressure Arsene Wenger: I can still turn things around at Arsenal

"Reacting to the latest protests and empty seats at the Emirates in Arsenal's 3-0 league defeat to City, RTÉ soccer analyst Dunphy told 2fm's Game On: "[The fans] blame Arsene Wenger and they want him to go but the club's policy over the last ten years, that's to blame.

"It is very hard, almost impossible now - we are too far behind", Wenger said of Arsenal's top-four prospects.

The Gunners keeper saved a good Pascal Gross shot as Brighton threatened again, with Dunk and Duffy both heading over from promising positions as the visiting defence failed to deal with routine set-pieces.

Arsenal improved in the second half but Brighton held on to secure a third Premier League home victory in a row to go 10th, while an eighth defeat in all competitions in 2018 leaves Arsenal trailing north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur, who are fourth, by 13 points and two places. But the Frenchman himself still maintained he's the right man for the job despite the poor form.

Brighton's confidence ebbed and Maty Ryan dived to his right to palm away a fierce drive from Ozil after 57 minutes as Arsenal began to overrun Brighton's midfield.

"And when a team struggles a bit for confidence it's even more hard".

"We have to stick together and focus".

Brighton remained in the ascendancy but with two minutes remaining until half time, Arsenal found a way back into the game when Granit Xhaka's pass inside the penalty area picked out Aubameyang, who flicked the ball past Mathew Ryan from seven yards.

"In this situation he's the front guy, he's the guy who's going to carry the can, his in the name on everybody's lips, but if you look a little bit deeper I think you can see a bigger picture. We need to correct it".

First-half goals from Lewis Dunk and Glenn Murray secured all three points for the home side, despite Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang halving the deficit before the break.

'It's very hard, it might happen but as we've seen recently it's very hard to do that. "We started so well, we might have even got more goals". "They had the better of the second half but we hung on in there and created chances here and there".

"We played with five at the back on Sunday, we played with four and played in a very offensive formation (on Thursday)".
