Shopian Bloodbath: Amid massive protests, people demand removal of Army camp

The joint separatist leadership had called for a valley-wide shut down Monday following the incident and has called for a march to Shopian on Wednesday. A fourth civilian's body was recovered from a nearby auto, officials said, and the body of another rebel was found a few kilometers (miles) away. "All the killings are related and we are investigating the matter", he said.

A militant and three civilians were killed in Army's retaliatory fire after a mobile check-post came under attack in Jammu and Kashmir's southern Shopian district late Sunday evening.

The Jammat-e-Islami in it's statement said that the incident proves that the Indian Army is immune from every legal and moral accountability.

According to police, Malik and Bhat belonged to LeT. He was missing since November 13, 2017.

The terrorist killed was identified as Shahid Ahmad Dar, a resident of Shopian, and a weapon was found with him.

One rebel, three civilians were killed, when rebels attacked a mobile check post of the Indian army in Pohan area of Shopian in south Kashmir this evening, the army said.

A police official said restrictions were imposed in downtown and uptown Srinagar and Shopian and other sensitive areas of south Kashmir. All the major routes leading in and out of the district have been blocked by gun-toting security personnel who had laid out concertina wires on the roads, bringing back memories of the 2016 unrest.

Shops and businesses opened while public transport was normal in Srinagar and other places.

Train services in the Valley have been suspended.

Following the incident, massive protests broke out in the area.

Police intercepted the Malik-led protest march and took the separatist leader and some of his supporters into custody.

However, policemen intercepted them and detained Malik and his associates near Budshah Bridge. Rail services have also been affected, and markets have called for a shutdown in Srinagar, NDTV reported.

The schools upto middle school were scheduled to reopen on Monday after almost three months winter vacation.
