Sherman, 49ers to meet Saturday

Seattle Seahawks' Richard Sherman (25) eats turkey during a TV interview on the field after the San Francisco 49ers' lost 19-3 in their National Football League game against Seattle Seahawks at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., on Thursday, Nov. 27, 2014.

On Saturday, ESPN's Josina Anderson reported that former Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman had drawn "preliminary interest" from seven teams, including the Green Bay Packers.

Besides that, Sherman's excelled in a Cover 1/Cover 3 scheme that mostly asks him to dominate a receiver one-on-one in short and intermediate depths.

The Legion of Boom seems to be over in Seattle after the Seahawks released Richard Sherman on Friday.

Sherman was in Las Vegas for NFL Players Association meetings until Friday afternoon but is thought to have then traveled to the Bay Area for his meeting with the 49ers. The days of an Achilles tear being an immediate career-ender are long past, but for a cornerback who never had outstanding deep speed-and is less than three weeks from his 30th birthday-it's hard to think he'll be back to top form before the season starts.

Still, the Patriots would be well-served to explore the possibility of bringing Sherman into the fold. He tore his Achilles tendon in November.

"I want to go to a contender", Sherman said Friday on KIRO radio in Seattle. Sherman expects to be ready for the regular season but could be limit in August for training camp and parts of the preseason.

San Francisco started the offseason with a $137.5 million pact with impending free agent Jimmy Garoppolo. Niners general manager John Lynch has plenty of salary-cap space to potentially sign Sherman - roughly $70 million, according to Over The Cap.
