West Ham fans face life bans after London Stadium pitch invasions

The Hammers were beaten 3-0 at London Stadium amid a toxic atmosphere, with supporters invading the pitch on three separate occasions as protests against the club's ownership boiled over.

Club bosses are thought to be unhappy with stewards for failing to prevent the chaos, which saw four pitch invasions and culminated in co-owner David Sullivan being hit by a coin.

Co-owners David Sullivan and David Gold were forced to flee their seats as fans chanted "sack the board" and "you killed our club".

The Hammers are in 16th place on the league table, just three points above the relegation zone, and are under pressure to bounce back after three successive heavy defeats against Liverpool, Swansea City, and Burnley, respectively.

West Ham want to be granted the full.

It is understood that the fans' safety remains the club's primary concern.

Saturday's events are being investigated by the Football Association and the Premier League.

"The best chance of reaching that goal is for everyone to be united behind the team when we play Southampton on 31 March and for the remainder of the season".

A West Ham spokesman said: "The club is working in close conjunction with the Metropolitan Police to identify those individuals who entered the pitch during the second half and.to identify those who threw missiles".

The bill for policing and stewarding comes to about £90,000 per match, and that is likely to rise by several thousand pounds after an emergency meeting today of the London Stadium's safety advisory group.

David Moyes' West Ham United will face Southampton at the London Stadium in the Premier League later this month.

That and a perceived loss of identity following the move to the London Stadium, has fuelled fans' unrest but West Ham says it has a "zero-tolerance" policy towards bad behaviour.
