Since Feb. 19, more than 1,000 people have reportedly been killed in attacks by the regime and its allies in Eastern Ghouta.
A total of 8,000 people - including opposition fighters and their families - are slated for evacuation from the regime-besieged region, as a part of a Russia-brokered agreement between Syria's Assad regime and armed opposition groups. The Ministry of Defence of Russian Federation says 6,500 people were evacuated from the southern towns in Eastern Ghouta as part of the evacuation deal and they are now in Idlib.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), a United Kingdom based war monitor, reported that the last group of evacuees arrived Saturday in the town of Qalaat al-Madiq in Hama province, from where they will head for neighbouring Idleb.
"Our experts are looking at them, but clearly since this is an enclave, it's very hard to have access to information and material", said the OPCW's director general. More than 103,000 civilians have been freed from the terrorists' grip in that region close to Damascus in the past two weeks.
