TV star Ant McPartlin 'arrested on suspicion of drink-driving' after crash

"This is a straightforward case of him needing to go away and take as much time as possible".

His publicist said McPartlin, who spent time in rehab past year, was taking time off "for the foreseeable future" and would have further treatment.

The London Fire Brigade and the Ambulance Service also attended and a number of people were treated for minor injuries. He and his passengers were apparently unharmed, but a young girl in another vehicle was taken to hospital.

A couple and a young girl were in one of the cars involved in the accident, and Ant's mum was reportedly in the auto with him.

The ITV presenter weighed in on the speculation as to whether Ant will join Dec on the Saturday night entertainment show this weekend. The source said: 'The woman was trying to arrest him and get him in the police auto but he clearly wasn't having it'.

Discussions are being held over the last two episodes of the series, due for broadcast on March 31 and April 7.

McPartlin was driving his Mini in Mortlake on Sunday afternoon when he was involved in a collision involving two other cars.

'Ant looked in a right state and was acting argumentatively toward a policewoman, ' they claim.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed earlier today that the star has now been released after his arrest for drink driving, but a full investigation will follow.

Saturday Night Takeaway, which McPartlin hosts with presenting partner Declan Donnelly, will not air this weekend as scheduled.

Ant McPartlin was arrested by police yesterday following a reported "drink-driving crash" that lead to a girl aged 3 visiting hospital.

The BAFTA award winning presenter went to rehab past year after admitting he was addicted to prescription painkillers and alcohol. And he had pleaded with his wife, make-up artist Lisa Armstrong, to take him to hospital after a night bingeing on tramadol, morphine and alcohol.
