Ben Affleck finally admits massive phoenix back tattoo is real

The New Yorker article said that ever since Affleck's 2015 split from actress Jennifer Garner, paparazzi photographs have shown a "sad Ben", from him vaping in his auto to the low-energy interviews he gave during the "Batman v Superman" press tour. The revelation that Affleck lied about the tattoo spawned plenty of attention, including a piece from the New Yorker titled, "The Great Sadness of Ben Affleck", analyzing recent photos of the actor looking despondent.

On Thursday, Affleck tweeted that he is not in a deep sadness and joked that his tattoo made his skin even thicker.

Ben and Jennifer are still friendly as they work to co-parent their three kids-Violet, 12, Seraphina, 9, and Samuel, five. The pair share children Violet, 12, Seraphina, nine, and Samuel, six.

His use of the word "garish" was quoted directly from the piece that described his back tattoo as both "garish" and 'gargantuan'.

The giant tattoo of a rising phoenix spanning from shoulder to shoulder and presumably all the way down his backside first caught our eye in 2015, amid Affleck's divorce from actress Jennifer Garner.

"Am I the ashes in this scenario?" she mused. "I refuse to be the ashes". There is something about this exhausted father that reflexively induces panic. "You know, I support him in all of his artistic expression", Damon said, raising the question of whether a true friend would let someone get that tattoo on his back. "We've been living in a world run by Afflecks for so long, will we even know ourselves when they're gone?"
