The eagle has landed ... on James Paxton's shoulder

The Eagles has landed....not exactly where it should've.

The Canadian lefty was standing with his hat off and hand over his heart in the outfield at Target Field prior to the Mariners' game against the Minnesota Twins, when the eagle looped toward him and tried to land on his shoulder, missing and dropping to the grass.

"I'm not gonna outrun an eagle, so just thought, we'll see what happens", Paxton told reporters after the game, reports the Associated Press. "I don't know. But it came for me", the left-hander said on Thursday evening after the Twins rallied past the Mariners 4-2. This is the guy, after all, who after playing his second big league game in front of over 41,000 at Busch Stadium in St. Louis looked up at the multiple decks and said he had no idea there were people up there. The bird initially flew off and landed on the ground but went airborne again, landing its giant claws into Paxton's shoulder!

Paxton is Canadian, so he joked that the American bald eagle knew his nationality and was coming after him. "The talons, they were kind of sharp on my back, but I don't have any scratches I believe".

"I was just standing there, trying not to panic", he said. The raptor's handler immediately came running onto the field with his big leather arm sleeve and the bird finally cooperated and stopped going after Paxton.

"That's not the first time I've seen a bald eagle, but it was the first time I've had one try to land on me", Paxton said.
