China seeks WTO dispute resolution with USA over steel, aluminum tariffs

China calls on all the member states of the World Trade Organization (WTO) to take steps in cooperation with Beijing to resist the protectionist policy implemented by the United States, the permanent envoy of China to WTO said Wednesday.

The current trade disputes between the US and China may be wading into those waters.

China's commerce ministry said on Thursday it has initiated a World Trade Organization (WTO) dispute resolution procedure over US tariffs on its import of steel and aluminum. In the context of these wrong United States steps, China is planning to resort to the WTO dispute settlement mechanism.

"Consultations give the parties an opportunity to discuss the matter and to find a satisfactory solution without proceeding further with litigation", the WTO said. "We want to resolve trade disputes and properly deal with the relevant issues with the US side through dialogue and consultation, and we want to do that based on global law and trade rules, not on some domestic laws of the US", Shuang added. Then, the president revealed plans to impose around $50 billion in tariffs on Chinese exports in response to China's theft of American intellectual property and forced technology transfers.
