NHL Playoffs 2018: Full 1st-round postseason schedule

The Battle of Pennsylvania is on. We can be found at Sons of Penn and The Orange Update.

The Pittsburgh Penguins and Philadelphia Flyers meet up in Pittsburgh on Wednesday night as these two bitter rivals kick off their first round playoff series. That year, centers Logan Couture and Joe Pavelski plus defenseman Brent Burns were the team's top three scorers.

Burns, the 2017 Norris Trophy victor, is the most dynamic of the three. Jonathan Toews and the Chicago Blackhawks will be watching the playoffs from the sidelines because, according to CBS Sports, the Blackhawks will be missing out on the playoffs for the first time in 10 years. Goaltending is much different now than it was in that series.

The Sharks also have defenseman Marc-Edouard Vlasic. It's not like he's had one or two good years. Unfortunately, the Cinderella season is likely to end at the hands of the NHL's current top team. Star captain Steven Stamkos is questionable after missing four of the final seven regular-season games with a lower-body injury.

The downside for the Ducks is that they have trouble scoring. Goalie Sergei Bobrovsky is third in the east in save percentage and has 37 wins on the season.

And don't be fooled by Bobrovsky's poor playoff performance that is skewed due to a small sample size. They were swept by Anaheim in 2015 in their only trip to the post-season since returning to Winnipeg six years ago. Philadelphia, Washington, Columbus is in close proximity.

Had Matthews played in all 82 games, he would have landed in the range of 45 goals and 83 points, increases over last season, when he had 40 goals and 69 points in 82 games on the way to winning the Calder Trophy.

Pittsburgh, as a collective unit, has been penalized 4.0 times per game overall this season, 4.2 per game over its past five contests total, and 3.8 per game over its last five at home.

"Tomorrow, we'll be embarking on the most exciting and unpredictable time in sports with the start of the Stanley Cup Playoffs", said Keith Wachtel, NHL Chief Revenue Officer and Executive Vice President.

Regardless of the right winger, Couturier and Giroux manage to control both shots and goals for at even strength very well, but up head to head with Crosby's line, posting those numbers would be nothing short of extraordinary. Voracek's line has outscored opponents 54 to 37 in that span. He could find a way to pull off this upset. They finished what, two points behind us? And which long shot can go all the way?

Teams now play fewer regular-season games against each other and are made up of more skilled players and fewer enforcers.

As a participant in it for 13 years now, he knows about the vitriol shared by the players and fans of both teams.

"We've got some free agents this year, so are we going to be as good next year?" The Flyers finished third-worst in the league on the penalty kill (75.8 percent).

Since September 2016, an expansion team - the Vegas Golden Knights - has been added to the league. The pick: Tampa Bay in 5. Philly jumped out to a 3-0 series lead, winning Games 2 and 3 with eight goals apiece, only to allow 10 in Game 4 before advancing two games later. Now comes the hard part after a difficult regular season for Murray: backstopping the two-time defending Cup champions to history.

Tampa Bay (54-23-5, 113 points) will face the East's No. 2 wild-card team, the New Jersey Devils (44-29-9, 97), in the first round of the playoffs.

No. 1 Nashville Predators vs.

Taylor Hall is the most important player in this series. But he wasn't almost as effective on the road as he was at home.

In 78 career postseason games, he has 22 goals, 55 points. His ability to produce scoring chances also diminished on the road. The Kings don't have home-ice advantage, but they have overcome this issue in the past.
