Shenmue I & II Coming to PS4, Xbox One, and PC in 2018

At today's Sega Fes event in Tokyo, Sega officially announced what many considered to be an inevitability - the re-release of Shenmue I & II on modern consoles, including PS4, Xbox One and PC. With an emphasis on the finer details, Shenmue helped form a rich open world, and its slow and atmospheric pacing helped it claim the status of a cult classic.

The first game in the series, Shenmue begins the tale as Ryo travels around Yokosuka, Japan, gathering clues about his father's murder and dealing with nefarious gangsters along the way.

Sega has announced a remaster of the original two Shenmue games during tonight's Twitch live stream.

Shenmue I & II comes complete with the original feature set that defined modern gaming, including enthralling jujitsu combat, investigative sleuthing, and RPG elements in addition to memorable mini-games.

The bundle isn't just a straight port of the original games, either. SEGA stated that in this release fans will be able to choose between English and Japanese voiceovers, choose between classic or modern controls, and "more". No word on an exact launch date at this time, either, and of course still no word on Yu Suzuki's upcoming Shenmue III, at least not yet. The third part of the franchise will arrive a full 17 years after its predecessor, and will look to finally continue the story of the Shenmue franchise as a whole.
