President receives 1st copy of book 'Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar: Vyakti Nahin Sankalp'

"Ambedkar Jayanti is an annual festival observed on April 14 to commemorate the memory of social reformer Dr BR Ambedkar and hence the government made a decision to hold such programmes for the welfare of people, specially underprivileged", said a senior official with the social justice department which is organising state-level programme on the occasion in the Birla Auditorium. He expressed hope of victory from Varuna Constituency. The President called the book an accessible resource to understand Dr Ambedkar.

Mr Kovind said the best tribute to him will be to build a just, egalitarian and developed India and an India that lives up to the republican ethic that Dr Ambedkar shaped and defined for people and for future generations.

The president later left for Mhow, about 30km from Indore, by a helicopter.

Speaking on the occasion, the President said that Dr Ambedkar, like Dr Martin Luther King Jr, is an inspiring figure for all humanity. The Headmaster also shed light on his life.

The Prime Minister said the government will not allow dilution of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

"CM Vasundhara Raje celebrating 127th birth anniversary of Ambedkar will dedicate a library and a conference hall in Jaipur".

Modi, who was in Jangala in Chhattisgarh on a days visit, said Ambedkar has given a Constitution that protects the rights of weaker sections of the society and appealed to people not to join Naxals to achieve their goals. "We remain indebted to him for his efforts towards the making of our Constitution".

The event commenced at 8.00 am with a prayer song sung by the choir members followed by thought for the day by Vaishnavi Suresh of Class X and Significance of the Day by Sonali Umanath of Class X. Principal Fr Robert D'Souza, vice-principal Belita Mascarenhas along with the student representatives offered a floral tribute to Dr B R Ambedkar.
