School-shooting video game pulled after backlash

The video game, which was set to be released in June, would have allowed players to take part in a simulated school massacre scenario.

In the run-up to the game's release, its premise ignited a firestorm of controversy. Pressure to ban the title was already building before Valve removed the game.

Robinett hopes to take some of the momentum gained from the Change.org petition to help prevent school shootings.

According to Deadline, the game's publisher, Acid Publishing, is based out of Moscow, Russia.

Revived Games and Acid are run by the same person, who calls himself Ata Berdiyev, Valve spokesman Doug Lombardi said in an email.

Valve Corp.as Steam's parent company said Tuesday that it was removing the computer video game because the developer was a "troll with a history of customer abuse". We are not going to do business with people who act like this towards our customers or Valve.

Lombardi added that Valve planned to have further conversations about the policies that regulate content on Steam.
