76ers considering firing GM as Twitter-accounts probe focuses on wife

76ers ownership is reportedly considering the dismissal of Bryan Colangelo as the team's investigation focuses on his wife, according to ESPN.

Colangelo could soon be without a job, according to an ESPN.com report released early Friday.

The probe hasn't been completed, and a final decision has yet to be rendered, but the fallout from a report by The Ringer that connected Twitter accounts unleashing privileged information and provocative attacks surrounding the Sixers has left ownership flushed with embarrassment and anger - and Colangelo fighting for his professional life, league sources said. "And if there's involvement with a family member, it doesn't look like he has a chance either".

The team announced a day later that they would be conducting an investigation into the reports, which is ongoing and yet to reach a verdict.

Ownership's main fear is that the Colangelo scandal has hurt his credibility inside and outside the franchise and could affect free agency when LeBron James and Paul George are expected to hit the market, ESPN reported.

The Sixers commissioned an outside law firm to investigate the matter, and that investigation has already included the surrendering of Colangelo's cell phones, league sources said.

But at this point, it's hard to fathom Philadelphia sending Colangelo into a meeting like that; the best-case scenario for him at this point seems to be "I've been leaking team information to my wife who then shared it, including ripping our players".

"I don't believe the story". However, The Ringer alleged that Colangelo might be linked to four other accounts - "Eric jr", "HonestAbe", "Enoughunkownsources", and "Still Balling" - that did make controversial tweets.

National Basketball Association commissioner Adam Silver responded the Colangelo/Sixers issue at his Finals news conference Thursday, saying the investigation will be get done, but not by cutting corners. "And so I have talked to management at the 76ers and the notion here was, let's find out what's going on".

"Well, for the league there is always that balance of speed and doing things in a deliberate and appropriate way", Silver said.
