Karnataka HC clears decks for release of Rajinikanth's 'Kaala' in state

Owing to Rajinikanth's stand on the formation of Cauvery Management Board, the pro-Kannada groups have threatened to stall the release of Kaala in Karnataka. Justice G Narendar issued the direction on the basis of a Supreme Court order, which had stayed ban orders imposed on the release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's film 'Padmaavat' by four states, including Rajasthan, early this year.

Rajnikanth said he has faith that Karnataka Chief Minister Kumaraswamy will provide security to theatres screening the film. The state government has assured the court about provision of security. "A chamber of commerce should facilitate the release of a film and not prevent it", Rajinikanth said. "That is related to the Film Chamber".

Rajinikanth's Kaala is releasing on June 7 and the movie has shown no signs of hitting the screens in Karnataka.

The piece of advice, "not as Chief Minister but as a Kannadiga", also focused on the financial fallout if the producer and distributors went ahead with the scheduled release. "After there is a solution to this (Cauvery) water issue, then they can release anytime", he said.
