Designer Diane von Furstenberg, who heads the Council of Fashion Designers of America, said Spade was a "great talent who had an immeasurable impact on American fashion and the way the world viewed American accessories".

"Sometimes you simply can not SAVE people from themselves".

The couple sold their last stake in the brand in 2006 to focus on raising their daughter, Frances Beatrix Spade.

Spade's family says they are devastated by this loss and are asking for privacy at this time. I don't know. I think something a little more interesting. "She was always smiling, always happy, she had attractive manners, and she always looked lovely".
