Trump says Kim 'trusts me, and I trust him'

They discussed Singapore-North Korea relations and developments on the Korean peninsula amidst Kim thanking the Singaporean premier for hosting the summit.

The meeting, long sought by Pyongyang, will be the first ever between a serving USA president and a North Korean leader, and will focus on the nuclear bombs and ballistic missiles the North has spent decades developing.

Lasting peace has obvious benefits for China, especially in bolstering the development of its rust-belt and landlocked northeast which borders North Korea and would suffer in the even of conflict. The likelihood of Trump launching a first strike against North Korea, thus setting South Korea, where more than 100,000 Americans live and/or work, ablaze and risking a strike against population centers in the USA, was similarly low. The drills help keep USA forces at a state of readiness in one of the world's most tense flashpoints.
