Kim Jong-un knows denuclearization must be 'quick' - Pompeo

"We're going to get complete denuclearisation and only then are we going to lift sanctions", Mr Pompeo added.

"The past doesn't have to be the future", a narrator says as the video showed the demilitarized zone that has separated North and South Korea since the end of the Korean War in 1953.

At the summit, Trump emphasized what North Korea has to gain by giving up its nuclear weapons and rejoining the worldwide community - a subject he returned to on Twitter.

"The supreme leader cherishes her voice and North Koreans notice it as well, so there is no reason for Kim Jong Un to replace someone who has been called a treasure in North Korea", said Ahn Chan-il, a North Korean defector who now lives in South Korea.

"The summit created this enormous historic opportunity for us to move forward and will fundamentally really shape the relationship between the United States and North Korea", Pompeo said.

The two clasped hands for a long while Tuesday as they posed for photos in front of a row of US and North Korean flags.

Meanwhile, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was mulling his own summit with Kim in August or September, the Yomiuri Shimbun reported, citing several unidentified government officials. "Complete denuclearization" certainly encompasses that idea very clearly".

The meeting between the two world leaders in Singapore culminated in an agreement that commits the U.S.to offering unspecified "security guarantees" for North Korea in exchange for the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

Tough sanctions against North Korea will remain in place until its complete denuclearisation, the U.S. secretary of state, Mike Pompeo, has said, apparently contradicting North Korea's view that the process agreed at this week's summit would be phased and reciprocal.

After arriving back in the U.S., the president also tweeted that "everybody can now feel much safer". But for the rest of us who are watching and know the history of North Korea, we should be skeptical.

Moon later said South Korea would be flexible when it came to military pressure on North Korea if it was honest about denuclearisation.

Under such conditions, South Korea needs to flexibly change its military pressure in accordance with the Panmunjom Declaration, in which Moon and Kim agreed to build mutual trust after holding the third-ever inter-Korean summit on April 27 at the truce village of Panmunjom.

Japan has reacted to Trump's plan to cancel military exercises with South Korea with concern, saying the drills were vital for east Asian security. No more rocket launches, nuclear testing or research! Conservatives said the move displayed weakness from the USA on the world stage. "But the issues of the alliance should be dealt with under the premise we maintain joint ironclad defence posture".

"The President of the US expressed the possibility of suspending the US-South Korea joint military exercises...and, as progress is made from dialogue and negotiations, lifting sanctions against DPRK", said the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).

Trump said not only was a pullout not discussed, the USA "is not drawing down at all".

No modern American president has publicly spoken this way about the press, the network said while noting that former President Richard Nixon sometimes talked this way, but only in private. -South Korean exercises appeared off-limits under the new guidance. That was interpreted as meaning the USA would grant concessions to North Korea concessions along the way despite longstanding United States insistence that it would not. They may also discuss efforts to recover the remains of soldiers missing and presumed dead from the 1950-53 Korean War.
