Cohen Seeks to Silence Avenatti

Cohen is now under a criminal investigation for his business dealings with foreign companies.

Trump also called Cohen "a fine person with a wonderful family" and 'a businessman for his own account/lawyer who I have always liked & respected'.

Trump has repeatedly said there was no collusion, and Russian Federation has denied interference.

Avenatti went to social media to decry the attempt to take away his spotlight, tweeting: "We just learned that Mr. Cohen and his atty, Brent Blakely, are going to file a motion seeking to have the court issue a gag order preventing me & others from providing info & docs to the media and the public". Jones asked U.S. District Judge Kimba Wood to give Cohen's legal team until June 25 to complete the review.

In a free-wheeling interview Friday on the White House's north lawn, the president said he's not anxious about the prospects that Cohen will cooperate.

In a post to Twitter, attorney Michael Avenatti, who represents Stormy Daniels in her suit against Cohen over a nondisclosure agreement regarding her alleged sexual encounters with Donald Trump, crowed about the new evidence. In April, Cohen and his lawyers successfully argued for the appointment of a special master, allowing them, Trump's attorneys, and the Trump Organization to identify documents protected by attorney-client privilege that could not be used in a potential prosecution.

'Mr. Avenatti's actions are mainly driven by his seemingly unquenchable thirst for publicity, ' it added.

Cohen had filed an ex parte application for a temporary restraining order against Avenatti.

Friday's filing indicates that the government and Cohen's lawyers have agreed to a June 25 deadline for Cohen's team to examine the new material, which also includes new data recovered from a Blackberry that the Federal Bureau of Investigation had only recently been able to access.

"For over 12 yrs, Mr. Cohen and his boss Mr. Trump have routinely tried to "shut people up" and hide the truth through intimidation & threats".

The attorney claims Avenatti's behavior and statements about Cohen are unethical and threatens Cohen's ability to have a fair trial as it's turning the case into a "media circus". The judge reminded the parties Friday that requests for emergency orders "are exclusively for extraordinary relief and are discouraged".

The case is Clifford v Trump et al, U.S. District Court, Central District of California, No. 18-02217.
