Police say two Wyandotte County sheriff's deputies have been shot near the county courthouse in Kansas City, Kansas.

Lionel Colon said when officers arrived, they were shot at, so they returned fire.

Authorities are investigation after police in Kansas City, Missouri, fatally shot a 29-year-old woman seen brandishing a sword in a residential area. The suspect was also struck in the shooting. The Associated Press reported that one sheriff's deputy had been killed and another was in critical condition.

The deputy who was killed was identified as Patrick Rohrer, 35, who had been with the department for seven years, officials said. Police Officer Zac Blair says authorities are reviewing surveillance video.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to our brothers and sisters in Wyandotte County", the Johnson County, Kansas, sheriff's office tweeted almost two hours after the shooting.

A candlelight vigil is scheduled for 8 p.m. Sunday in Kansas City, Kansas, for the deputies, who both were parents. The parking lot where the incident occurred is gated.

Zeigler said both deputies were taken to KU Med Center for treatment. The surviving officer was critically injured.

"Right when I walked into the courtroom they pushed us into the corner of the courtroom, then I saw one officer being carried away with blood on their chest and another officer being carried away", John Garcia said.

The Kansas Highway Patrol said that people will now be seeing them wearing mourning bands as a sign of "respect, honor and solidarity". She said she would gladly give up a third trial for her daughter's murder if Fielder could be convicted for the 2017 murder. The juvenile's condition is unknown.
