Melania Trump ‘hates’ separating migrant kids from parents

According to the Department of Homeland Security, over a six-week period this spring, almost 2,000 kids were taken from their migrant parents at the border, as a result of Trump's "zero-tolerance" policy of separating children from their parents as they attempt to enter the US.

"Separating families is not mandated by law at all", Clinton said.

One would limit, but not entirely prohibit, family separations, fund Trump's wall and give legal protections to young immigrants, known as "Dreamers", who were brought to the country illegally as children.

The separations have triggered a nationwide outcry from Republicans and Democrats who say it is inhumane.

"Why we would even think that this is a tool that is needed to defend our borders is insane", Republican Representative Will Hurd, who represents a Texas district along the border, told National Public Radio.

"I just exited a border patrol "processing facility" known as the "icebox", Welch said.

Speaking at a White House event on space Monday, Trump argued that Democrats could end the policy imposed by Attorney General Jeff Sessions if they worked with Republicans to overhaul immigration laws.

Melania Trump has waded into the row over a controversial White House clampdown on immigration that has seen thousands of children separated from their families at the U.S. border.

Many politicians in Donald Trump's party support his government's actions but other politicians both in his party and in other parties, are preparing a new law which would end the separation of children and parents at the border. "We need to be a country that follows all laws, but also a country that governs with heart".

In the new legislation, children would now be held in the same place as their parents if they are detained.

"This policy resulted in immigrants missing their court dates and the federal government being unable to track individuals who entered the United States", Harris said. The House is expected to vote this week on a bill pushed by conservatives that may not have enough support to pass, and a compromise measure with key proposals supported by the president.

"We do not have a policy of separating families at the border".

On Monday, President Trump said the separation of children from their parents trying to enter the United States illegally is "so sad", but showed no signs of changing the policy.

"I say it's very strongly the Democrats' fault", Trump said.

Trump, who has made a tough stance on immigration a major goal of his presidency, responded sharply to critics on Monday. Sessions has routinely defended his decision, saying that "if you are smuggling a child then we will prosecute you, and that child will be separated from you as required by law".

The wife of George W Bush wrote in the Washington Post comparing the detention of kids to the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II.

The Trump administration has said it's simply enforcing a law to prosecute adults that come into the US illegally and that children can not be housed with adults while they are going through the criminal process.

"You're not going to see a majority make a policy that's clearly adverse to the president", Jolly said. While the current president has frequently attacked his predecessors, Melania Trump, Michelle Obama, Laura Bush and Hillary Clinton all attended the funeral of former first lady Barbara Bush in April.
