England brace for sizzling sun versus Panama

He praised an "organised" and "speedy" England and said they would present an even stiffer test than Belgium, the top ranked team in the group, who beat the Central Americans 3-0.

In the build-up to the Group C clash, photographs emerged of England assistant coach Steve Holland holding a sheet of paper with the apparent line-up on it.

All the built up criticism from a frustrating second half disappeared in the roars of jubilation as England grabbed a deserved win against Tunisia, a victory that has set them on their way towards qualification from Group G.

"This morning he followed the exact programme we had planned", Southgate said.

"Certainly as staff at the FA, I felt much more part of it and much more connected. There is only one ball on the pitch and we're going to fight for it".

"We need to be able to play to our full potential rather than being reactive to the opposition's strength", coach Akira Nishino said. We just knocked it on the head. "They might want to frustrate us or make people angry, but we've got to keep our cool and keep calm".

Panama will know they cannot go head to head with England in terms of quality, but they will quite happily make the game a dog fight.

"Emails were exchanged, and Dan asked for some clarity and we were happy with the responses".

The temperature is expected to hit 30 C (86 F) for the game, which should suit the Panamanians better than England.

A place in the last 16 will be close, but not certain.

It promises to be interesting as England take on Panama.

England may not be world-beaters, but they should certainly have enough to see off Los Canaleros, who came through CONCACAF qualifying with a negative goal difference after winning just three of their 10 matches in the Hexagonal. It's more around the flow of the day, leave maximum time for physical recovery.

"It was a bit of banter, we move on and are looking forward to the game now".

"We want to show people an England team can play in a different way".

The Tottenham midfielder suffered a minor thigh injury against Tunisia and has been rated as "unlikely" to feature in Nizhny Novgorod by England boss Gareth Southgate.

Unlike Panama, England chose not to train at the stadium on Saturday, preferring to have a session at their own camp earlier in the day before flying to the match venue.

Back to the task in hand, Crawford insisted the country needed to remain firmly behind the team, adding: "We've seen big rivals Germany and Argentina struggle in their opening matches". That's been a theme right the way throughout.
