HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT NOW: How to stay safe!

Eighteen states from New Mexico to MI have issued heat advisories, warnings or watches, making up a heat dome that is descending on 60 million people.

- The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for the DC metro area from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday, as heat index values could reach over 100 degrees.

Once the Minnesota winter of 2017-18 finally ended (remember the blizzard of April 14?), how many people said they'd never complain about the heat again?

On Sunday, temperatures in parts of NY and CT, were forecast to hit up to 100 degrees but appeared to settle in the high and mid-90s by the late afternoon.

Though the temperatures over the Northeast will not reach the extreme highs of the Midwest and Central Plains, the duration of the heat will be significantly longer.

An Excessive Heat Warning remains in effect until Sunday at 8 P.M. for all of West Michigan. Heat will begin to drop off after that, but the moisture will increase, keeping the heat index high through the week, and making things feel much warmer as well as very uncomfortable.

Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an air quality index value of 100 for ozone.

A heat advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is expected. Those looking to cool down are urged to visit one of the cooling centers or pools at a Boston Centers for Youth and Families location.
