Hawks get Anthony; will waive him

The 10-time All-Star averaged 16.2 points-per-game during the regular season but became nearly unplayable during the Thunder's first-round playoff exit to the Utah Jazz.

Anthony's contract, which has one year and $27.9 million ($37.9m) remaining, was expected to make a trade hard.

The news broke on Thursday that a three-team deal involving the Thunder, the Hawks and the 76ers will send Anthony from OKC to Atlanta where the Hawks plan to waive him and pay him the $27.9 million on the past year of his contract, according to USA TODAY Sports.

The Thunder could have saved $107 million with the waive-and-stretch provision on Anthony's $27.9 million contract, but hunted a trade that allows them to save slightly less money and improve the roster.

Carmelo Anthony reportedly was traded Thursday from the Thunder to the Hawks, and it doesn't appear the star forward will be in Atlanta for long. Carroll played in six summer league games for the team, averaging 4.2 points and 2.0 rebounds in nine minutes.

Acquiring Schroder, who was obsolete in Atlanta once the Hawks made a decision to acquire the rights to rookie point guard Trae Young on Draft night, gives OKC a young veteran who can create offense for himself and others when Westbrook needs a blow. The charges against Schroder were recommended to be upgraded from misdemeanor to felony. Doing so meant moving on from a pair of former first-round picks in Anderson and Luwawu-Cabarrot, though both were going to see minimal time in Philadelphia this season. Young was selected No. 5 overall by the Mavericks then traded to the Hawks. Anthony averaged 11.8 points in the series, shooting just 37.5 percent from the field and 21.4 percent from 3-point range.

Atlanta also picked up Justin Anderson, a tough, 6-6 wing capable of guarding multiple positions and occasionally getting hot from the 3-point line.

SiriusXM radio host and longtime National Basketball Association reporter Mitch Lawrence was first to report the potential deal between the Thunder and Hawks.
