Man City boss Pep Guardiola speaks out on failed Jorginho deal

'He's so young and in two years it is another European Championships and then in four years another World Cup. "English football has signed an exceptional player".

"I am not disappointed", said Guardiola.

Guardiola allowed defensive midfielder Yaya Toure to leave in the summer and wants a replacement.

"My advice for all players is they have to go where they want to go, and in the end it would have been a mistake for him and for us if he'd chose to come here when he wanted to go with Maurizio and Chelsea".

The 31-year-old goalkeeper, who will see his present contract at the Etihad Stadium expire in June 2019, is one of 28 players selected as City will lock horns with Borussia Dortmund in Chicago (July 21), Liverpool in New York (July 26) and Bayern Munich in Miami (July 29).

It would have been a mistake if he had come here when he wanted to go to Maurizio and Chelsea.

Sane was one of the surprise omissions from the Germany national team 23-man squad selection for Russian Federation 2018 after a standout season with the Premier League champions.

"It is what it is", Guardiola told reporters.

City play Chelsea in the Community Shield on 5 August before opening their league campaign at Arsenal a week later.

"It could be like what happened with Phil Foden and Brahim Diaz - he could stay with us, because from what we have seen in these days, the impression is good, so good".

"We'll decide on the last day".

City face a Dortmund side that will include Mario Gotze, who scored Germany's winning goal in the 2014 World Cup final.

"Today everyone watches the Premier League so I have watched plenty of it in my time", Jorginho said on the Chelsea website. "I can't say why certain decisions were made".
