White House Says 'Threat' From Russia Still Exists

"We believe that the threat still exists, which is why we are taking steps to prevent it", Press Secretary Sarah Sanders told reporters at the White House daily briefing on 18 July.

In an interview Wednesday night with CBS News' Jeff Glor, following more than 48 hours of steady backlash over the press conference, Trump said that he holds Putin personally responsible for Russian interference in the election "because he's in charge of the country".

White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders told reporters at a news briefing hours later that the president's "no" was not in answer to a reporter's question, "Is Russia still targeting the USA?" "And there's been no president ever as tough as I have been on Russia", Trump said before a Cabinet meeting at the White House, adding that Putin "understands it and he's not happy about it".

Republicans and Democrats both accused him of siding with an adversary rather than his own country after he shied away from criticizing the Russian leader for what US intelligence agencies say were Moscow's efforts to undermine the 2016 election.

She added that it's "our goal" to stop any foreign meddling and that Trump made clear during his meeting with Putin to "stay out of United States elections".

"Well, I mean, I guess it's probably the best that we're going to be able to get, right?" I think Dan Coats is excellent. we have excellent people.

Blumenthal for his part says he wants to see "the whole national security team, beginning with (National Security Adviser) John Bolton", brought before Congress to provide details on the Trump-Putin meeting.

Although a small number of Republicans defended Trump's performance at the press conference such as Rand Paul, a senator from Kentucky. "You said the president has been publicly critical of Vladimir Putin, I just want to know when".

In a statement, Judy Jenner, a spokeswoman for the American Translators Association, said, "We have codes of ethics for many fields of interpreting. but I do not see how those codes of ethics would supersede a congressional subpoena".

"I said the word "would" instead of 'wouldn't, '" Trump told reporters.

Sanders, who was in the room when Vega asked the question, said she interpreted it differently and was not reversing Trump's position.

He, however, backtracked a day later on his return to the U.S. and said that he misspoke in the joint news conference. "I don't see any reason why it would be".

Donald Trump has claimed Russian hackers are no longer meddling in United States affairs despite intelligence sources suggesting otherwise. "We're not going to have it, and that's the way it's going to be".

At the Helsinki news conference, Trump cast doubt on the findings of the agencies.

He said the sentence should have been, "I don't see any reason why it wouldn't be Russian Federation", rather than, "I don't see any reason why it would be Russian Federation".
