Mourinho Urged To Sign Croatia Star Ahead Of Bale and Willian

Manchester United coach Jose Mourinho has confirmed the club will be without Serbian midfielder Nemanja Matic for the start of the new English Premier League season.

"I'm confident I will get one, but I think two I'm not going to get, which is not a drama", said Mourinho.

The Red Devils have snapped-up third-choice goalkeeper Lee Grant, young full-back Diogo Dalot and midfielder Fred but the Brazilian worldwide is the only one of the new recruits expected to be a first team regular this season so Mourinho is keen to further strengthen his ranks.

"I think I am not going to get two", Mourinho told reporters.

"In every pre-season it happens the same, with every club, which is that the manager wants more". But then, club decisions are different and normally you don't get what you want which happened during all my career.

However, towards the end of his tactical speech, as Mourinho briefed his men on what to expect in the gift shop, Matteo Darmian pointed out that as the players were scheduled to be riding the Kraken, they were also meant to be lining up to play Real Madrid.

Tottenham manager Pochettino is now the favourite to replace Mourinho if the Portuguese boss leaves.

Mourinho also says the new Premier League season should start a week later - in line with the rest of Europe. "That is why we still have him and why he is going to stay with us because football teams need people like him and Herrera, these kind of players, where the club is more important than anything else".

"We're not playing here to improve the team or the dynamic, we're playing here to just survive and have some not very ugly results".

And Mourinho continues to make no secret of his desire to further bolster United having failed to win any of their four matches in 90 minutes during their tour of the US.

Mourinho's mood has not been helped by United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward's perceived failure to deliver the transfer targets he identified before the summer break, with the window closing in just 10 days.

"You look to other countries and the countries with lots of players in the World Cup, they start later".
