Trump receives new letter from Kim Jong Un, sends his reply

"The ongoing correspondence between the two leaders is aimed at following up on their meeting in Singapore and advancing the commitments made in the US-DPRK joint statement", White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said in a statement, using the acronym for North Korea's official name, Democratic People's Republic of Korea. She said the letter was received on Wednesday. Trump also posted a note on Twitter on Thursday thanking Kim for returning the remains of US soldiers and saying he looked forward to seeing Kim again. I am not at all surprised that you took this kind action.

Trump tweeted about the letter on Thursday, thanking Kim for returning the remains of some American war dead from the 1950-1953 Korean War.

McKeague said he was "guardedly optimistic" that North Korea would agree to the return of more remains and also to joint recovery operations with the U.S.at former battlefields and prison camps.

Vice President Mike Pence was in Hawaii to greet the returns.

"A letter to President Trump from Chairman Kim was received on August 1".

Trump didn't lock down any specifics during their meeting but promised that North Korea was going to denuclearize.

"Where we have compelling DNA matches, identifications could come quickly", McKeague said, but he and Byrd also cautioned that the process could take years. Today, our boys are coming home. "Also, thank you for your nice letter - l look forward to seeing you soon!" the president tweeted.

A second meeting between Trump and Kim has not been scheduled at this time, according to a person familiar with the process. The timing would coincide with the U.N. General Assembly meeting when world leaders gather in New York City.

Trump also took to Twitter earlier to praise an "incredibly attractive ceremony" in Hawaii, where Vice President Mike Pence helped welcome the remains to the United States.

US intelligence agencies are seeing signs of construction of missiles at a factory that produced the country's first intercontinental ballistic missiles capable of reaching the United States, The Washington Post reported earlier this week, citing intel sources.

"I know that President Trump is grateful that Chairman Kim has kept his word, and we see today this tangible progress in our efforts to achieve peace on the Korean peninsula", said Pence, whose father fought in the Korean War.
