Chelsea have confirmed this evening that Mateo Kovacic will join the club on a season-long loan as part of a deal seeing Thibaut Courtois join Real Madrid.

After replacing former boss Antonio Conte so late in the summer, the Italian will surely have been hoping to have concluded more business by now.

England worldwide Drinkwater is also facing added competition for places 12 months after a big-money transfer, with it possible that he could be offloaded before the latest deadline passes.

Any loan deal for Bakayoko is likely to include an option to buy, according to Sky in Italy.

The 23-year-old joined the London club last year for £40m from Monaco and made 25 Premier League starts in a turbulent debut season where he struggled to establish himself as Kante's partner in midfield.

Chelsea are all set to have a busy last few hours in the transfer window as the board has went into overdrive to secure new manager Maurizio Sarri a couple of new signings in order to refresh the squad.

It's now believed that Everton want Bakayoko, but AC Milan are currently in the driving seat according to the report, with Borussia Dortmund also interested, leaving the Toffees with work to do if they want Bakayoko before Thursday's 5pm deadline.

Chelsea may have signed Jorginho and be on the verge of landing Mateo Kovacic, but they aren't giving up on Bakayoko entirely, and plan to loan him out this month. However, at AC Milan he could get regular football and possibly shine for his style of play.
