White House Slams Omarosa for Making Secret Firing Tape in Situation Room

Former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer pushed back on Omarosa Manigault Newman's allegation that he was paid to say nice things about President Trump in his new book.

Also, during the Meet the Press interview, Todd pressed her on her past defenses of Trump's racism and misogyny, including when she said in 2016 that her hiring was proof that Trump isn't racist.

Manigault Newman said in the book that she had not personally heard the recording. "I heard his voice as clear as you and I are sitting here", she said. "No one. So, I protected myself, and I'm so glad I did".

The accusations are among a long list of scandalous claims contained in her new book Unhinged, set to come out on August 14.

Indeed, racial divisiveness (e.g., picking fights with African American athletes, calling African Americans "low IQ", referring to mostly nonwhite countries as "shitholes", equating innocent "dreamers" with MS-13 gang members, trying to take away funding from cities that do not spend public-safety dollars rounding up and detaining illegal immigrants who haven't committed serious crimes, the Muslim ban) is central to Trump's presidency. "He goes on to say that things can get ugly for you", Manigault told host Chuck Todd.

"It's very obvious a threat", she said.

Manigault Newman worked in the White House for almost a year as an assistant to the president and the director of communications for the Office of Public Liaison. The recording played on the program doesn't seem to indicate how Manigault Newman reacted after her sit-down with Kelly, but the reality TV star-turned-White House aide seemed to think it proved the report wrong. "I wanted to see the best in him".

Omarosa Manigault shared one of her much-talked-about White House recordings with Meet the Press viewers on Sunday and it raises some terrifying possibilities.

The former White House staffer detailed her claim in her forthcoming book, writing that the offer was a way to keep her from speaking out.

Another claim, one that may give life to meme creators is that she walked in on the President eating a crumpled up piece of paper after a meeting with his then personal lawyer, and now federal witness, Michael Cohen.

In an interview on ABC's "This Week", Kellyanne Conway, a counselor to Trump, denied a raft of Manigault Newman's accusations, saying she had "undercut her own credibility".

"I have worked alongside that man for over two straight years now without interruption; I have never a single time heard him use a racial slur about anyone", she said.

The tweets are notable because her father drew scorn after the Charlottesville bloodshed for initially avoiding any condemnation of the torch-bearing white supremacists who took part in that rally.
