Omarosa says Trump is trying to silence her

Mr Trump said "I don't have that word in my vocabulary, and never have".

In a morning tweet, Trump praised his chief of staff, John F. Kelly, for previous year having fired Manigault Newman, the former reality television star who was the highest-ranking black employee in the White House.

"He knew that John Kelly was going to take me into the 'Situation Room, ' and lock me in there, threaten me, and say that things were going to get ugly for me, and there would be damage to my reputation", Newman said of Donald Trump.

Donald Trump has called a former senior adviser a "dog" who is a "crazed, crying lowlife" after she released a tape in which the president expressed surprise at learning of her dismissal.

Discussing the differences between their views, she said: "One, I want to see this nation united as opposed to divided".

She wrote in her new book, Unhinged, that after being sacked from the White House in December 2017 she was offered a $US15,000 ($A20,639) per month position with the Trump re-election effort in exchange for signing a new confidentiality agreement.

"It's fantastic that for two years these folks have been reaching out to me, and I guess I was in denial", Manigault-Newman added.

The action, which the campaign said was filed in NY, comes amid a publicity tour by Manigault Newman to promote her book, Unhinged, which portrays Trump as bigoted and racist and questions his mental capacity.

Trump himself came the closest to an explanation on Monday morning, writing on Twitter that he'd heard his aide was performing poorly in her job and antagonizing others, but that he remained enamored by her then-unyielding support.

"I can't guarantee anything, but I can tell you the president addressed this question directly", Sanders said. The president tweeted praise for Chief of Staff John F. Kelly "for quickly firing that dog".

In the book, she describes Trump as the architect of the deal with Pecker, who was also involved in negotiations with longtime Trump lawyer Michael Cohen over Playboy model Karen McDougal, who claims she had an affair with Trump. "That was one of the goals that I set out to and then get back to my life", she said. But he clearly thought highly enough of her to give her a top post at his White House following his election.

She commented just hours after Trump's campaign announced it was filing an arbitration action against her, alleging that she violated a secrecy agreement. "That's not hush money", she said.

Ms Manigault-Newman has since made claims that other tapes exist, and that she will slowly make the recordings available to the press. Trump was obsessed with leaks to the news media and repeatedly demanded that McGahn draft the agreement, the aides said.

The White House has no way of knowing how many tapes Manigault Newman might have, the official said, even as they explore legal avenues for preventing their release and punishing her for making them.
