'Gather round': Apple unveils iPhone launch date

Most Apple watchers expect the company to unveil a number of new iPhone models and a release date for its next iOS operating system during the event, held at the company's slick Apple Park headquarters.

Looks like we don't have to wait until September 12th to get our first look at Apple's new iPhones.

Bloomberg News has previously reported that all three devices will have facial recognition and edge-to-edge screens like the iPhone X. The two premium models will have OLED screens, while the cheaper phone will use LCD technology. Apple has in each of the past six years hosted a press conference in early September to announce a new iPhone. Some of the new iPhones are expected to run at a cheaper price with fewer features, while others will boast the same expensive price tag as 2017's X model.

In typical enigmatic style, Apple offered scant clues to what it has in store for the presentation to take place in the Steve Jobs Theater at its spaceship campus in the Silicon Valley city of Cupertino. It's rumored to come in new colors, too, but which colors those will be remains unknown.

A report from 9to5Mac's Zac Hall claims this is an exclusive look at the next watch.

Rumors also suggest this new iPhone will not come with 3D Touch.

It's now unclear if Apple will save this announcement for later in the year or reveal all alongside its new range of phones.

Both of these models will have similar specs, including dual rear cameras, stainless steel frames, glass backs, AMOLED screens, and internals - including the A12 chipset, 4GB of RAM, and 64/256/512GB of storage.

A new leaked image from 9to5 Mac shows what it says is the Apple Watch Series 4. Only, in 9to5Mac's images, we can finally see what appears to be Apple's flagship phone in gold. Other possible products that could be on deck for a grand reveal include new Apple Watch models, an updated iPad Pro and the next version of its AirPods.
