Eden Hazard talks up Chelsea teammate Olivier Giroud

Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud says he and Alvaro Morata can be good for eachother this season. For characteristics they are different, it depends on the kind of match.

"I think he is right, because we are very unsafe in the defensive phase, we need to improve there", he said.

Called in for his first start of the Premier League season, Giroud repaid Maurizio Sarri's faith by teeing up the first two goals of Hazard's sublime treble at Stamford Bridge.

"We have spoken and I told him he can score 40 goals", Sarri said.

Giroud laid on the assists for the first two of his teammate's three goals on the day.

"We can improve. We are not so solid as I want in the defensive phase", Sarri said, citing Cardiff's early goal from an unmarked Sol Bamba. "Yes, I think so". He can have more energy in the last 25 metres.

Chelsea travel to Greece for Thursday's Europa League tie against PAOK, and Sarri will consider rotating his squad.

The west London club are two points clear of defending champions Manchester City but Sarri said both City and second-placed Liverpool are "better" than his side. "I'm always trying to do more - create more chances, score more goals, and today a hat-trick so I will try to do this more". I think it's normal that in this period we have some defensive problems.

"When Alvaro is playing it's completely different but he has different qualities and it's a pleasure to have both in the team".

The Italian insists that while the end goal is to make Chelsea the best team in England, it could take as long as 18 months to achieve that target with defensive issues still remaining as he overhauls the club's system to a pressing style.

"I didn't play at the beginning of the season because I came back late from the World Cup". "We need to improve very quickly, but I think we can do it".
