Orrin Hatch says Kavanaugh accuser may be 'mixed up'

Kavanaugh has denied the charges, releasing a statement on Monday that he was willing to speak to a Senate panel to "refute" the allegation.

Kavanaugh spent more than nine hours at the White House Monday, huddling behind closed doors with his confirmation team. There was no immediate explanation of the reason for his visit.

Her announcement came six days after Kavanaugh's confirmation hearing concluded.

Baldwin said there should be no vote on Kavanaugh's nomination until the matter is fully investigated and both he and Ford testify before the Senate committee.

The allegation against Kavanaugh became public last week.

The White House says "Kavanaugh and the White House both stand by that statement".

But White House counselor Kellyanne Conway took pains to display concern for Kavanaugh's accuser.

Eshoo praised Ford and said her constituent has "exhibited an enormous amount of courage to do this". She should not be ignored.

Senator Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) isn't necessarily concerned by Christine Ford's allegations that Brett Kavanaugh tried to sexually assault her when they were in high school.

"Now an accusation of 36-year-old misconduct dating back to high school has been brought forward at the last minute in an irregular manner", the Kentucky Republican said. "It shouldn't certainly be very much", Trump said.

"No one in their right mind, regardless of their motive, would want to inject themselves into this process and face the kind of annihilation that she will be subjected to by those who want this nominee to go through", the attorney told NBC. CNN reported that Feinstein had forwarded a letter to the Federal Bureau of Investigation relating to alleged misconduct by Kavanaugh while he was in high school and that the letter Feinstein sent had all the names redacted except for Kavanaugh's. She told the Post she was afraid Kavanaugh might "inadvertently kill" her during a party in the early 1980s, alleging that the Supreme Court nominee pinned her to a bed and groped her over a one-piece bathing suit.

Ford has accused Kavanaugh, a conservative appeals court judge chosen by Trump for a lifetime job on the top USA court, of trying to attack her and remove her clothing while drunk in 1982 in a Maryland suburb outside Washington when they were students in different high schools. The three senators are considered potential "yes" votes.

In Nevada, where Republican Sen.

Some Republicans want additional testimony from Kavanaugh and to hear from Ford under oath, which would likely delay the necessary procedural vote the committee scheduled for Thursday. Contacted Sunday by CNN, Sen. "In this case, that would entail phone calls with at least Judge Kavanaugh and Dr. Ford". Dianne Feinstein of California, to schedule those calls, and that she declined.

Mr. Manley recalls his time as a young staffer in the Senate when Anita Hill accused then-Supreme Court nominee Clarence Thomas of sexual harassment in 1991. The Post said the notes referred to four boys involved, which Ford said was an error made by her therapist.

"I agree with Senator Flake that we should delay this week's vote", Feinstein said.

"He was trying to attack me and remove my clothing".

"This is a completely false allegation", Kavanaugh said in a statement.

The left forgives President Bill Clinton despite his affair with a young intern and other allegations of abuse, and it forgives the Democratic lion Ted Kennedy for his complicity in the death of a young woman - because they align on the issues, Feehery points out. Ford told The Washington Post that she thought it happened in the summer of 1982, when she would have been 15 and the newspaper said Kavanaugh would have been 17.

Republicans have not settled on the strategy, the person familiar with the situation said, but were weighing options, including doing nothing.
