United defence for accused pick for Trump top job Brett Kavanaugh

Trump's change in tone - and apparent shift in tactics - came as Christine Blasey Ford's lawyers negotiated with the Senate Judiciary Committee on the terms for her possible testimony next week in a dramatic showdown over her accusation that threatens Judge Brett Kavanaugh's confirmation.

Dr. Ford has stated that she's willing to testify in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee if required, and while Republicans have cautiously said they want that to happen... they're also pressing to move forward with Kavanaugh's SCOTUS confirmation vote.

Republicans are warning that time is running out for US Supreme Court pick Brett Kavanaugh's accuser to tell Congress about her claim he sexually assaulted her when both were teenagers.

In addition to security, expected to be provided by Capitol Police, Professor Ford has asked for press coverage of her testimony to be the same as for Mr Kavanaugh. GOP senators who'd voiced concern about Ford's charges had stopped short of expressing opposition to Kavanaugh, and growing numbers of Republicans said it was about time to vote.

The woman's attorneys called the date set by Republicans "arbitrary", according to multiple U.S. news reports. Thus it is not necessary for Ford to drive across the country to be heard by the committee, which raises questions about why she is requesting to delay the committee hearing. "It just seems like everybody is open to any kind of allegation because they don't like Trump".

Ford wants Kavanaugh to testify first and then she will tell her story to the committee, a committee staffer said.

Judge Kavanaugh has issued a fresh rebuttal of the allegation.

Miranda says she played soccer with Ford - whom she refers to as Chrissy - in high school and that she continues to support her. Miranda added that despite not knowing specifics of what went on at the party three decades ago, she remembers that there was a "buzz" that went around possibly on a weekend about the party where an alleged incident involving students from her school and Kavanaugh's took place.

Sen. Chuck Grassley had set a 10 AM ET deadline this morning by which time Ford had to notify the committee as to whether she will testify by Monday's arbitrary deadline which.

Kavanaugh has repeatedly agreed to testify before the Republican-led Senate Judiciary Committee, saying he wants to clear his name. Kavanaugh is a key piece of that puzzle for McConnell's legacy after he infamously blocked former President Barack Obama from filling a vacancy on the high court in 2016.

Attorney Debra Katz (pictured above) said anew that Ford, 51, a psychology professor in California, has received death threats and for safety reasons has relocated her family.

Republicans are furious over what they say was the deliberate timing of the last-minute revelation of Ford's allegation, accusing Democrats of seeking to prevent the process from finishing before the November midterm elections.

US President Donald Trump introduces his Supreme Court nominee, Judge Brett Kavanaugh, in the East Room of the White House in Washington, DC, July 9, 2018. "We're going to plow right through it and do our job". "I mean, you could also say when did this all happen, what is going on?"

"I think it's a very sad situation", he said, asking, "Why didn't somebody call the Federal Bureau of Investigation 36 years ago?"

Trump's outburst saw a new #MeToo era hashtag storm the internet, with #WhyIDidntReport the top trending conversation starter on US Twitter, as people - mostly women - vented outrage over past transgressions and voiced solidarity with Ford.

"I don't know her values but what she's saying is unproven and I would argue it's unprovable", Bauer said. Dr. Ford has asked me to let you know that she appreciates the various options you have suggested.

By refusing to call Mark Judge as a witness, and refusing to direct the FBI to investigate, Republican members of the Senate Judiciary Committee and the president are in lockstep.

Republican leaders are offering Ms Ford a chance to describe her allegation, either in a hearing room before television cameras or in private.
