Trump sticks with Kavanaugh, calls sexual assault allegations

According to the report, Ford sent the email about 90 minutes after the Post shared her name with the White House - but before the newspaper posted a story revealing her name on Monday.

The allegations cause more headaches for Senate Republicans and Majority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, who on Friday told the Value Voters Summit in Washington that Kavanaugh would be on the Supreme Court "in the very near future".

U.S. President Donald Trump hosts the "Global Call to Action on the World Drug Problem" event at the United Nations in NY, U.S., September 24, 2018.

Trump, speaking to reporters on his way into the United Nations on Monday morning, said Kavanaugh "is an outstanding person, and I am with him all the way". She also accused Kavanaugh of laughing at her in the aftermath and has said the FBI should investigate the incident.

On Sunday, The New Yorker published a report detailing accusations from a second woman, Deborah Ramirez, who claims Kavanaugh thrust his penis in her face during a drunken dormitory party when they were undergraduates at Yale University. But after consultation with a lawyer, Ramirez told the magazine she felt confident enough in her recollection that it happened. Blasey, who was around 15 at the time of the incident, has said publicly that she did not report it to the authorities, and that she does not recall exactly when it took place.

White House spokesperson Kerri Kupec said of those who allegedly attended the party, "One week ago, Dr. Christine Ford claimed she was assaulted at a house party attended by four others".

Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 21, 2018I have no doubt that, if the attack on Dr. Ford was as bad as she says, charges would have been immediately filed with local Law Enforcement Authorities by either her or her loving parents.

Avenatti said he would provide additional evidence in the coming days.

In his statement Sunday, Kavanaugh said he is looking forward "to testifying on Thursday about the truth, and defending my good name - and the reputation for character and integrity I have spent a lifetime building-against these last-minute allegations". She posted a sign saying she has no comment on her front door.

"This 35-year-old, uncorroborated claim is the latest in a coordinated smear campaign by the Democrats created to tear down a good man", White House spokesperson Kerri Kupec said.

"We can say with confidence that if the incident Debbie alleges ever occurred, we would have seen or heard about it - and we did not".

In a statement to The New Yorker, two of the male classmates who Ramirez alleged were involved the incident, the wife of a third male student she said was involved, and three other classmates, disputed Ramirez's account of events. "I have never done anything like what the accuser describes -- to her or to anyone".

"We are aware of significant evidence of multiple house parties in the Washington, D.C., area during the 1980s" during which Kavanaugh and others "would participate in the targeting of women with alcohol/drugs in order to allow a "train" of men to subsequently gang rape them", Avenatti wrote. But they shouldn't bode well for Kavanaugh's confirmation, despite the protestations of Republicans like Rep. Steve King who said of Blasey Ford's allegation: "How can you disprove something like that?"

Kavanaugh was nominated by President Trump in July to replace the vacancy left by Justice Anthony Kennedy, who retired.
