Here's where Tropical Depression Kirk is Sunday and where it's going

As it moves northwest, it may take on tropical characteristics briefly, but the long range outlook is not favorable for significant strengthening.

But the storm may generate enough strength to give the Lesser Antilles Islands a dose of heavy rain once it passes by, threatening flash flooding and landslides. Temperatures will be warming into the 80s by 10 AM, and reaching a high of 89° shortly after noon. Temperatures will drop into the 60s.

That Atlantic hurricane basin has been mostly quiet since Florence dissipated, but we're still keeping an eye on potential activity.

Meanwhile, way out in the Central Atlantic where it's no threat to land, Subtropical Storm Leslie is spinning south at 7 miles per hour and blowing winds of 40 miles per hour, according to the center's Monday afternoon update. Officials had thought portions of the highway would continue to be underwater for days, but Cooper said floodwaters had receded faster than expected.

"It is possible that Kirk could degenerate into a trough of low pressure during the next day or two while it moves quickly across the tropical central Atlantic", the public advisory says.

Tropical Depression Kirk is said to be moving northwesterly at 23 miles per hour and has wind speeds of 35 miles per hour. Kirk is moving toward the west-northwest near 16 miles per hour. The environment off the coast may become slightly more conducive for development as the system continues moving northwestward.

Still, most models show an increasing amount of wind shear hitting the system by Wednesday, which would weaken cyclonic development. By the middle of next week, strong upper-level winds are likely to limit additional development as the system turns northward and moves closer to the southeastern coast of the United States.

The second wave is located about 1000 miles west-southwest of the Azores. Still almost 3,000 miles away from the First Coast and USA, it will continue to fluctuate in strength and size over the next few days as it approaches the Lesser Antilles & Caribbean by Friday.
