Sparks Fly Before Judiciary Committee Vote on Kavanaugh Nomination

Judge Brett Kavanaugh's full Senate vote could be delayed after Senator Jeff Flake (R-AZ) announced he wanted the Federal Bureau of Investigation to get one week to investigate allegations against the Supreme Court nominee.

Jeff Flake in an elevator early Friday morning before the Senate Judiciary Committee vote on recommending Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

Durkin tweeted that Gallagher was "visibly shaken" after her interaction with Flake. He quietly listened to the women and alternated between making eye contact with them and looking down at the ground.

"You're telling all women that they don't matter", a woman who identified herself as a survivor of sexual assault told Flake in an emotional confrontation on Capitol Hill Friday.

"What you are doing is allowing someone who actually violated a woman to sit on the Supreme Court", Archila said.

Presumably, the background check that Flake and Murkowski have asked for would include interviewing people like Kavanaugh's high school friend and noted alcoholic Mark Judge, who is reportedly hiding out in beachfront property somewhere on the eastern shore, not wanting to talk to anyone about his high school bestie Brett Kavanaugh.

The scene was caught by CNN's cameras and came just moments after Flake's office issued a statement on his support of Kavanaugh.

I'm simply stating the discussion that we had between us all is that I would hope and I think we had some agreement before that the Democrats who have been - I think - justifiably uncomfortable moving ahead, could publicly, in an effort to bring this country together, say that we would feel better. "That's what you're telling me when you vote for him". Kavanaugh vehemently denied the allegations.

Speaking to the AP by phone after the confrontation, Gallagher said she didn't intend to tell Flake about her assault - she had never told anyone before. That suffocating hand that she says was slammed over her teenage mouth was now replaced with those of disbelieving male senators.

While this woman spoke, Flake and his staff requested that she leave the elevator and allow him to move. "And I think we - I just felt a great sense of urgency". "That's what you're telling all of these women". "That you're going to let people who do those things into power". "I told the story of my sexual assault".

"Saying thank you is not an answer, sir. That's what you're telling me right now!" she continued.

Republican senator Jeff Flake of Arizona just provided it.

There is still a strong chance the bully we saw in the hearing room yesterday gets his bigger pulpit.

Archila, the co-executive director of the Center for Popular Democracy, and Gallagher, a recent college graduate, had only met that morning and discovered they both were survivors of sexual assault.

Ana Maria Archila pointed her finger at Flake while she appeared to keep the elevator door from closing.
