The much-awaited release of the Huawei Mate 20 series has finally come, two new flagships oozing with features that position them way ahead of their Android rivals.

The Huawei Mate 20 X is also available in just one memory variant with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. Huawei believes that the new Mate 20 Series sets a new bar by which all 2018 smartphones will be measured. The Mate 20X sports a 7.2-inch display with no notch, for even more screen estate.

The Huawei Mate 20 is expected to sport an octa-core HiSilicon Kirin 980 SoC, paired with 4GB/ 6GB/ 8GB of RAM and 64GB/ 128GB/ 256GB/ 512GB of UFS 2.1 inbuilt storage. It was launched in Midnight Blue and Phantom Silver options. Smartphones support the new standard memory cards Nano Memory Card instead of the usual microSD - they size and shape is similar with cards nanoSIM and now produces only the Toshiba and only in the version 128 GB. It has a smaller "teardrop" display notch that only houses the selfie camera, a rear-mounted fingerprint reader, and a smaller 4,000 mAh battery. There are 16-megapixel ultra wide angle camera with f/2.2 aperture and 17 mm lens, 12-megapixel wide angle camera sensor with f/1.8 aperture and 27 nm lens and 8-megapixel telephoto camera with f/2.4 aperture and 52mm lens.

The Huawei Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro are the first smartphones to be powered by the Kirin 980 processor under the hood. Some of the specifics like RAM and water resistance ratings vary between devices, though.

The handset comes with a fingerprint sensor on the rear unlike the in-display fingerprint sensor found on the Mate 20 Pro. First, there's the different camera system that includes a 40MP primary sensor, 20MP wide-angle lens, and an 8MP 3x telephoto lens to top everything off. The cameras also include LED flashlights and Super HDR mode.

The Mate20 phones also feature 3D facial recognition so a user can unlock their phone with their face, similar to Face ID on the iPhone XS and XS Max.

Mate 20 Pro also has wireless charging but can also dish out power to other devices through a feature the firm is dubbing "reverse wireless charging".

The Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro are both powered by the Android 9 Pie-based EMUI9. In terms of connectivity, the handset offers 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth v5.0, GPS/ A-GPS, and a USB Type-C port. The Mate 20 X features a 7.2-inch screen and has a 1080p OLED display compared to the Switch's 6.2-inch display and native 720p resolution.
