Jon Rahm strong in final round to win the Hero World Challenge

Rahm took the lead after Finau bogeyed the eighth hole, and never trailed again. "I made a mistake there on 17, but overall it was a long week".

There are two ways to look at matchup bets for the elite-field 18-man Hero World Challenge: Either we can become hyper-focused on such a small group of players or it can be tougher than usual because so many studs are playing head-to-head.

"That Sunday with Tiger is still the most emotionally, most important moment of my golf career", Rahm said. "Maybe left one or two out there coming home, which is always - standing there Sunday afternoon, you wish that you didn't leave one or two out there on Saturday, I guess, but it is what it is", he said. "I think the best way to describe it, having five par 5s and two relatively short par 4s, out of those seven holes I got six birdies".

Tiger Woods hits from the third tee during the first round of the Hero World Challenge at the Albany Golf Club in Nassau, Bahamas, Thursday, Nov. 29, 2018. Gary Woodland had a 67 and, after being over par midway through the opening round, suddenly was just two shots behind.

He'll be there for three days as part of his preparations as the USA Presidents Cup Team Captain ahead of the staging of the biennial event last next year.

"It's definitely not alarming, for sure", said Woods, in his first 72-hole event since winning the Tour Championship.

He added, "Also, the Sunday of the PGA my grandpa had just passed as soon as I finished".

"I added two degrees of loft in my putter after Thursday and then went out and shot 64 yesterday with it and so I chose to keep it", he said.

Rahm's victory is unofficial on the PGA Tour, though the tournament awarded world ranking points.

The world number 33 took a three-shot lead over his fellow Australian into day four of the European Tour-sanctioned event at the Royal Pines Resort on the Gold Coast, but it quickly evaporated.

Rahm, who has played a heavy late-year schedule since helping Europe to victory at the Ryder Cup in September, said his game had been dialed in.

Rahm shot a bogey-free round, collecting seven birdies along the way.

"That's what you have to do to play well, so I was able to do that today".

Japan's Hideki Matsuyama brought up the rear, one shot behind Woods.

"I somehow turned it around and got rolling a little bit to get to even par for the day somehow".

Tournament host Woods finished second-last, a distant 19 strokes behind Rahm.
