Michael Owen reacts to Liverpool FC’s 5-1 win over Arsenal

Rampant Liverpool opened a nine point gap at the top of the Premier League table after thumping Arsenal 5-1 thanks to a hat-trick by Roberto Firmino on Saturday evening.

But after a slow start, Salah, Firmino and Mane are beginning to show the form they did last season in smashing a combined 91 goals.

"For sure today with the Tottenham result there are people saying we acted on that, but there was absolutely no reaction, no smiles on the faces", said Klopp afterwards.

It was poor defending from Arsenal, but also the sauciest of solo goals from the Liverpool No.9. It was a really special performance from the Brazilian who covered the entire front-line, popped up in space time and time again, ran with pace at retreating defenders and generally caused a nuisance.

Firmino made it 2-1 for the Reds and got his brace in the 16th minute, turning the game on it's head for the hosts with a handsome solo run, beating off three challenges from Arsenal players from 30-yards before placing his strike in the bottom corner, 2-1.

The ball fell to Firmino, who had a simple tap in after the Bernd Leno was taken out of the game with the bouncing ball.

Firmino then turned the game on its head with a sublime finish less than two minutes later. A combination of efficiency and boundless enthusiasm was enough to force Arsenal into errors, from which clinical finishing ensured the goals flowed. As early as the second minute, an under-pressure Leno could be seen nervously passing the ball out of play. Arsenal clear from a corner but are too slow to get out.

The Egyptian scored their fourth on the stroke of half-time, converting a penalty after referee Michael Oliver adjudged he had been tripped by Sokratis Papastathopoulos.

Maitland-Niles, who gave left-back Andy Robertson a hard time early on, capitalised on the space left by the attacking left-back to convert Iwobi's low cross at the far post.

Two minutes later the Brazil worldwide put Liverpool in front - and there was no luck about this one as Firmino slalomed past three Arsenal defenders before slotting the ball past goalkeeper Bernd Leno. A special moment; a special player; a special team.
