Samsung to bring Bixby to fridges and TVs

The update makes the company's speakers more useful than ever, and we're happy they can finally fit in with our Assistant-enabled smart homes.

"This is really showing that the Assistant is available across the devices that really matter to you", says Nick Fox, Google's head of product and design for Search and Assistant. On Android, Assistant will work with SMS, WhatsApp, Messenger, Hangouts, Viber, Telegram, Android Messages and others, though Google cautions that functionality will vary by service.

In an interview with The Verge, Google Assistant vice president Manuel Bronstein admitted "the largest footprint right now is on phones". He also highlighted that the Assistant now works in 30 languages and is available in 80 countries, with the number of global active users growing four times year over year.

Google's booth will include a ride similar to Disney's "It's a Small World", showcasing different ways to use the Google Assistant - its AI-powered rival to Amazon Alexa and Apple's Siri.

The latest reports suggest that the company has sold more than 100 million Alexa-enabled devices in 2018.

In a related move, Google Assistant will also be able to book hotel rooms for you. It's inevitable that at least a few of the people who receive or purchase such a device will grow attached to Assistant, and use it on a regular basis.

Without providing specific numbers, Huffman said Google Home and Google Home Hub devices sold well throughout this past holiday season.

Samsung's next line of TVs, coming this year, will offer voice control through Amazon's Alexa and Google's Assistant.
