Giuliani says Cohen talked about Trump Tower in Moscow through 2016 election

He denied the report from Buzzfeed that Trump told his former lawyer Michael Cohen to lie about skyscraper negotiations to Congress but said the two men may have talked before Cohen testified.

Speaking to Lauren Ingraham, he said networks should instead be praising Trump for the job he is doing as President.

The unusual situation is complicated by the fact that the United States has imposed a series of sanctions on Russian Federation due to alleged meddling in the 2016 USA presidential election with Robert Mueller investigating those claims, as well as allegations of collusion between Trump's campaign team and Moscow.

Giuliani, President Trump's personal attorney, said Monday that comments he had made to the New York Times the day before about Trump Tower Moscow were "hypothetical".

"I shouldn't have said tapes", Giuliani insisted.

Rudy Giuliani has been widely criticized for his constantly evolving claims as he attempts to defend President Donald Trump.

"My recent statements about discussions during the 2016 campaign between Michael Cohen and then-candidate Donald Trump about a potential Trump Moscow "project" were hypothetical and not based on conversations I had with the president", Giuliani said in a statement shared by reporters on social media, including NBC News' Geoff Bennett. Adjusting his previous timeline, Giuliani told CNN on Monday that there was no way of determining exactly when the discussions ended because they had no record of it. Giuliani had then indicated in an interview with ABC News last month that the talks had lasted possibly until Election Day, although he was less specific than he was Sunday.

The project and the length of discussions around have been subject to a changing narrative and is a key part of the legal saga facing Cohen, Trump's former attorney.

According to the report, those two officials claim that the negotiations ended months before they did so as to hide Trump's involvement.

"Probably up to, could be up to as far as October, November", he said. Saying that the talks ended in January 2016 was a lie, Cohen admitted.

"I just told you he didn't do it. So any time during that period, they could have talked about it", he said. "I don't know if they made it up". But the President's recollection of it is that the - the thing had petered out quite a bit.

"It doesn't make a lot of tactical sense, Lawrence, but, you know, I think what Giuliani is, perhaps, trying to do is what we call draw the sting", Kirshner said.
