Pompeo says second Trump-Kim meeting to occur

"The president has a risky habit of undermining the intelligence community to fit his alternate reality", Senator Mark Warner, the vice chair of the upper house's intelligence committee, tweeted.

Within the letter Schumer said he believed CIA Director Gina Haspel and FBI Director Christopher Wray, who also testified before the Senate Intelligence Committee Wednesday, should immediately meet with the President.

North Korea has complained that the United States has done little to reciprocate for its actions so far to dismantle some weapons facilities and freeze its weapons testing.

Despite Mr Kim's determination for another meeting with President Trump, the two remain at odds over fundamental issues, said a report of the ABC News.

The Annual Worldwide Threat Assessment from the Directorate of National Intelligence (DNI) also analysed the threat faced from North Korea and its findings were again disputed by Trump. "They said it was fake news", he said Thursday.

Trump also touted what he said were his successes in Syria, where he has alarmed allies by abruptly announcing a withdrawal of U.S. troops assisting local forces against the Islamic State group, and in North Korea. "Happily, we had a very good meeting, and we are all on the same page!".

But after having huddled with his intelligence team on Thursday, Trump's tenor changed dramatically - but not for the reason Schumer had perhaps hoped.

"The President has a unsafe habit of undermining the intelligence community to fit his alternate reality", the Senate Intelligence Committee's top Democrat, senator Mark Warner, wrote on Twitter.

In his most detailed public remarks on his approach to North Korea after five months in his role, Biegun said the United States had told the North it was prepared to pursue commitments made in Singapore "simultaneously and in parallel" and had already eased rules on delivery of humanitarian aid to it.

Pelosi said Trump's comments were "stunning".

Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer said it was "past time" for U.S. intelligence officials to stage an intervention with Trump.

In response, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer blasted Trump's "back to school" tweets as "extraordinarily inappropriate".

He added that Mr Trump's insistence on contradicting intelligence chiefs, particularly in relation to Russian meddling in U.S. elections, "harms our ability to defend ourselves".

Earlier Wednesday, Trump tweeted: "I look forward to seeing Kim Jong Un shortly". They are wrong! When I became President Iran was making trouble all over the Middle East, and beyond. The move was strongly condemned by other signatories to the deal - Russia, China, the UK, France, Germany, and Iran itself - which insisted on the need to preserve it. "It was a terrible one-sided deal". I don't think it's any great secret, but we'll be announcing the location and the date, the exact date.

At a hearing Tuesday, Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats said intelligence information does not support the idea that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un will eliminate his nuclear weapons.

Trump later insisted on Twitter that the U.S. relationship with North Korea "is the best it has ever been". "They're doing tests and we don't want to be a position where we're behind".
