After surgery, Michael Cohen’s prison date postponed to May

The start date for Michael Cohen's three-year prison stay has been delayed for two months, after President Trump's former personal attorney asked for more time to recuperate from surgery.

"The schedule has now been set".

The House Oversight and Reform committee said Wednesday night that Cohen would testify publicly on February 27.

Jordan charged that Cohen was invited "just to satisfy Tom Steyer", - a billionaire Democrat who is funding a campaign to impeach Trump - "and other political forces on the left".

Earlier Wednesday, Cohen, who pleaded guilty to campaign finance violations for making hush-money payments to two women who claimed they had affairs with Trump, got a 60-day reprieve before he has to enter a federal prison. The attorneys also said Cohen anticipates being called before three congressional committee's before the end on the month.

Cohen's lawyers requested the delay in a letter to a judge Wednesday, citing a "serious surgical procedure" that requires extensive physical therapy. Special Counsel Robert Mueller has already been probing whether Trump attempted to obstruct the investigation into Russian election meddling by firing FBI Director James Comey and through other actions. They noted prosecutors did not object to the one-time extension. He will now report to prison on May 6.

Davis confirmed in a tweet that Cohen would appear before the Oversight Committee and said Cohen "will speak about his decade long experiences working for Mr. Trump".

"I am pleased to announce that Michael Cohen's public testimony before the oversight committee is back on, despite efforts by some to intimidate his family members and prevent him from appearing", said Chairman Elijah Cummings, D-Md., in a statement on Wednesday.

Cohen acknowledged lying to the committee about his role in a Trump business proposal in Moscow.

Cohen, 52, was spotted last month in New York City wearing a hospital ID bracelet and with his right arm in a sling after his lawyer said he'd undergone minor shoulder surgery.

The agenda of the hearing does not include any inquiries about special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russian meddling in USA elections and possible coordination between 2016 Trump campaign associates and the Kremlin.
