The strike comes after reports that Pakistan is shifting terrorist leaders, including Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar, to safe areas after India demanded of strong action against them following the Pulwama attack on February 14, sources said.

"Acting on intelligence, India early today stuck the biggest training camp of Jaish-e-Mohammad in Balakot", he said.

Pulwama terror attack had led to nationwide outrage and Prime Minister Narendra Modi had vowed to punish those behind the attack.Entire world community had expressed solidarity with India after the attack.

He was subsequently transported to Guantanamo Bay Naval Base, Cuba, on February 7, 2002 because of his knowledge of the Moaskar training camp in Balakot, Pakistan, and his affiliation with the Taliban as a foreign fighter, the US Defence Department memorandum says.

"Credible intelligence was received that JeM (Jaish-e-Mohammed) was attempting another suicide terror attack in various parts of the country, and the fidayeen jihadis were being trained for this objective".

The Balakot camp is believed to have been brimming with terrorists estimated to be in excess of 300 as all launch pads along the border had been emptied in anticipation of an Indian strike.

A spokesman for the Pakistani military, Major General Asif Ghafoor, said that the Indian bombers had "released payload in haste", near Balakot, at the edge of Pakistan-administered Kashmir.

The Pakistani spokesman said there were no casualties or damage.

Both nations claim all of Muslim-majority Kashmir, but control only parts of it. India and Pakistan have fought three wars and a limited conflict since independence from Britain in 1947 - and all but one were over Kashmir.

The military action follows a diplomatic offensive in which India says it is seeking to isolate Pakistan for its alleged support to militant groups. In the a year ago an increasingly bloody crackdown on insurgents in Indian-ruled Kashmir has escalated tensions in the troubled region.
