Fighter jets shot down in air battle between Pakistan, India

Numerous nations have issued statements calling on both sides to practice restraint, in the meantime.

"Our action was only meant to convey that if you can come into our country, we can do the same", he said, referring to Wednesday's airstrikes.

Citing senior officials, Indian media outlets reported that the condition of the Pakistani pilot was unknown as several Pakistani fighter jets on February 27 "violated Indian air space in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch and Nowshera sectors before being pushed back by Indian aircraft". He appeared in good health as he was questioned about his hometown, his aircraft and his mission.

Meanwhile, security forces clashed with militants in Indian-administered Kashmir early Wednesday, killing two insurgents, according to a security spokesman.

Indian air force fighters have been modified to deliver nuclear bombs.

Pakistan shut down its airspace in light of the current situation.

Punjabi actor and singer Diljit Dosanjh made a decision to postpone the unveiling of his Madame Tussauds' wax statue at an event in New Delhi on Thursday, in the wake of escalating tensions between India and Pakistan.

Both armies accused the other of shelling villages and opposition army posts across the line of control that separates Indian and Pakistani controlled Kashmir.

In a press conference after the strikes, General Ghafoor displayed photos of what he said were "captured Indian weapons" and "documents".

Pakistan's military spokesman Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor said the pilot was being "treated as per norms of military ethics".

The pilot was injured and was being treated at a military hospital, Ghafoor said.

"India does not wish to see further escalation of the situation", she said, speaking from a meeting with Russian and Chinese foreign ministers in China. "Pakistan claims the pilot is in their custody, however we are ascertaining the facts".

Indian Pilot Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman was taken into custody by Pakistani forces.

Ghafoor, the Pakistani military spokesman, said the strikes were aimed at "avoiding human loss and collateral damage".

Pakistan has rejected the allegations of its involvement in the attack and said that this was New Delhi's strategy to divert worldwide attention from human rights violations taking place in the Kashmir region.

The government in New Delhi justified the airstrikes on Pakistan's territory by claiming that Islamabad doesn't do anything to combat terrorists.

Pakistan carried out air strikes and shot down two Indian military jets today, the day after Indian warplanes struck inside Pakistan for the first time since a war in 1971, prompting leading powers to urge both of the nuclear-armed countries to show restraint.

Pakistan used heavy calibre weapons in 12 to 15 places along the de facto border in Kashmir, known as the Line of Control (LoC), a spokesman for the Indian defence forces said on Wednesday.

As hostilities escalate between India and Pakistan, the world is getting a taste of what a limited war between two nuclear-armed rivals might look like.
