Lori Loughlin surrenders to FBI amid college admission scam fallout

Actresses Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin were among 50 people charged in what prosecutors called the "largest college admissions scam" ever uncovered by the Department of Justice.

Loughlin is slated to appear in federal court on conspiracy charges and will be booked at Los Angeles' Metropolitan Detention Center. She's scheduled to appear on March 29 in federal court in Boston.

Loughlin and husband Mossimo Giannulli are accused of paying $500,000 to have their two daughters recruited to the USC crew team despite neither child ending up on the team.

The couple were among 50 people indicted on Tuesday in a scam to help children of the American elite gain entry into top United States colleges. A source told ABC that Loughlin was in Canada filming a Hallmark Channel Original Movie. According to Variety, the judge also specified that Loughlin would be allowed to speak to her daughters and husband about the charges, but to no one else connected with the case. Giannulli was released Tuesday after posting a $1 million bond.

He went on: "For every student admitted through fraud, an honest, genuinely talented student was rejected".

A Florida prep school administrator has been suspended from his school after he was accused of taking college admissions tests for students as part of a scheme in which wealthy parents bribed coaches and others to get their children into elite universities.

The nationwide scandal involved parents shelling out millions to alter test scores and fake athletic credentials.

According to the criminal complaint released on Tuesday, the scheme began in 2011. Knowing that your parents don't believe you're smart enough to get into college on your own must be hard enough, but Loughlin's daughter, Instagram and Youtube "Influencer", Olivia Jade, is getting some serious heat on her social media.

According to CNN, Macy is not charged or named in court documents.

The person told investigators the couple agreed to the plan. Both were charged with conspiracy to commit mail fraud and wire fraud.

No students have been charged, with authorities saying that in many cases the teenagers were unaware of what was going on.

It's alleged that she arranged to use the scheme again for her younger daughter, but decided against it.

Parents spent anywhere from $200,000 to $6.5 million to guarantee their children's admission, officials said.

Lelling explained, "Numerous parents paid Singer between $15,000 and $75,000 to have someone either take the exam for their child or to correct their child's answers afterwards".
