Puerto Rico’s Governor Says Trump ‘Confused’ Over Recovery Money

In an exclusive interview with CNN, Rossello said: "If the bully gets close, I'll punch the bully in the mouth".

Does it feel that way sometimes?

"Puerto Rico has been taken better care of by Donald Trump than by any living human being", Trump told reporters at the White House before leaving for MI.

"If Rossello supports that Puerto Rico becomes a state WITHOUT CONSULTING THE PEOPLE - as the U.S. news says - it will reveal what it is: an aspiring dictator who wants to get something people didn't vote for", she tweeted in Spanish.

Puerto Rico Gov. Ricardo Rosselló told CNN he was with Trump during his 2017 trip to the island and would not confirm to CNN that Trump made the aforementioned remark.

The President responded Thursday afternoon by declaring that he had personally saved the island from ruination after Hurricane Maria in 2017.

"There were other topics that were being discussed and my view is that the sole focus of that trip should have been on Puerto Rico", he said.

Puerto Rico renewed its push for statehood previous year after Hurricanes Irma and Maria devastated the island in 2017. Puerto Rico has been taken care of better by Donald Trump than by any living human being. He said that's more than the amount earmarked for Florida and Texas hurricane recovery. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass, and Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., among other candidates, have called for admitting Puerto Rico as a state if that is what the island votes to approve.

"Frankly, the people of Puerto Rico, I really have a great relationship with them, and I think, when it comes time, they really do appreciate it", he added.

In the past, Trump rated his efforts in Puerto Rico on a scale of 1-10 as being a 10. "It's very poor relative to Katrina". "Why he would be able to sit down with those two folks why wouldn't he sit down with one of his governors?"
